Can I fix you?

My favorite rock/pop musical group is the British band Coldplay.  Their 3rd album X&Y released in 2005 includes a song called Fix You.
“When you try your best but you don’t succeed
When you get what you want but not what you need
When you feel so tired but you can’t sleep
Stuck in reverse
When the tears come streaming down your face
‘Cause you lose something you can’t replace
When you love someone but it goes to waste
What could it be worse?
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you”
The song seems to tell the story of two friends, a couple, or just two people having a conversation about a difficult situation that they are experiencing. This song reminds me of my marriage to my wife Aleva because it has taken me years to learn that sometimes I should just listen, and not try to fix a particular situation.  Sometimes it’s hard for me to “just listen” because, by nature, I am a fixer.  I hear a problem and right away I start thinking about how to fix whatever is broken or out of place.
I have encountered many kids with multiple issues that needed fixing, and it’s always tempting to try to fix them.  Today, I’m trying to become a better listener.
